Who is behind whatfunk?

Hi, I’m Cedric. I started whatfunk in 2015 and I composed most of the music currently on this site.

Why did you start whatfunk?

Before I started this project, I was working on quite a few different music projects. For example I composed soundtracks for videogames and shortfilms. Usually I would write a few demos in different styles and then send those to the developers or filmmakers for them to decide which ones would fit their project best. So my harddrive filled up with rejected demos. Also there were folders full of songs that I did to experiment or just for fun which also didn’t have a purpose. Right around that time Unsplash became really popular. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a website where you can get free stockphotos and you don’t have to give credit. So inspired by this I started whatfunk. I wanted to create a website where you can get music as easy and stress-free as you can get images on unsplash. I also saw it as an opportunity to have a creative outlet for all of my music that didn't fit anywhere else.

Can you write costum music for me?

Yes. Just contact us and we can discuss details and budget.

I’m a musician. Can I add my music to the whatfunk collection?

Have you read the license carefully and are ok with those terms? Then send us a message with a few demos and we’ll make it happen.

Why is the license on Soundcloud different?

When you upload music on Soundcloud you have to choose a license from a preselected list of options. Unfortunately there is no option to choose your own license. That’s why on Soundcloud it seems like our music is licensed under a Creative Commons license. It isn’t. This is our license.
